Welcome to August! August is a happy month for me because it’s my birthday and for those of you who have followed me for a while will be know I LOVE my birthday. As a child I used to spend weeks imagining my birthday presents and the actual day itself (an early form of manifesting and visualisation you might say!)
At the weekend I was having a conversation with someone about age. I’ve always been a firm believer that age really is just a number. I have friends and clients who are much older than me and also friends and clients who are much younger. It makes no difference for me.
During my conversation this weekend I realised that many people do carry around a lot of anxiety linked to their age. Yesterday I spent some time talking to some friends of mine and unravelling this idea that the older we get, the less time we have. The idea that we are running out of time.
And it’s true…. we are all running out of time.
And time is our most precious commodity.
So it got me thinking. We can’t slow down time or turn back time (at the moment!) so surely the best way to combat any sort of anxiety surrounding the idea of ‘running out of time’ is to make the most of it.
THIS IS NOT A DRESS REHEARSAL.
So I thought I would put together an exercise to support those of you who feel like you’re running out of time but want to make a change. As with many of my exercises this one involves a journal so grab your book and a pen, find some quiet time and put pen to paper…
(1) Where am I now?
What’s your current situation in your job, your business, your relationships, your home life, your parenting… anything that is relevant to you.
(2) Where do I want to be?
Plan it all out… where do you want to live? How much money do you want to make? How many clients do you want? How much do you want to charge? What would you like your relationships to be like?
(3) When do I want to be there?
Get clear on your timescales, map everything out and start to create a timeline for your future.Yes be adventurous but also be realistic.
(4) How do I want to feel when I get there?
I find this a powerful visualisation exercise. Close your eyes and think about how you will feel when you have these things. Think about the tangible feeling you will experience when you’ve achieved your goals. Success? Power? Wealth? Peace? Happiness?
(5) WHY do I want this?
Probably the MOST important part of this exercise is starting to work out your ‘why’. Why does any of this matter? Why is it important for you? So often people tell me that they want to be successful but they can’t tell me why. Without the why it’s SO much harder to achieve.
Don’t rush this exercise. Don’t do it when your energy levels are low. PLEASE tell me how you get on – if you’d like to share your ideas with me then please do! I always personally reply to all of my emails and I’d love to hear from you.
