Shhhh… Can I tell you a secret?

Yesterday I was asked a very interesting question… “How can I succeed?”I wasn’t quite sure how to answer this. Success is completely subjective and I wondered in what way this person considers other people a ‘success’. I wondered how she had decided what success looked like. Was success the measure of her own goals and desires? Was it the picture of success that society has dictated to her? I started to draft a list of ways in which I believe I’ve carved my own success and want to share them with you.

Never take no for an answer: I have never let anyone tell me I wasn’t able to do something I wanted to. I’ve always persisted with my ideas and dreams even when other people have told me I wouldn’t succeed. If anyone ever tells you that your dreams are not possible, remember that their assumption is based on them NOT you.

Don’t be afraid of hard work: I remember someone telling me early on that working for yourself was incredibly hard work. I remember thinking PERFECT! Whilst I don’t believe you need to be a slave to your business, hard work is definitely something that successful people are not shy of.

Constant Learning: Never stop learning! Your mind has no capacity and there is always space for new ideas, new concepts, new methods.

Always have a plan: At any moment I’ve always known where I’m going and why I’ve chosen that route. I have a business plan, I have goals, I have targets. If you don’t have a plan then start one today!

Investment: Possibly the biggest part of my own personal success is the level of investment I have made in my own development. The moment I gave myself the permission to invest in myself my growth rocketed. Look at the areas of your business that you’d ‘like’ to invest in and consider what the outcome of this investment could be. What’s the cost of not investing?

Surround yourself with other ‘successful’ people: Your vibe attracts your tribe! Surround yourself with people who inspire you, people who you aspire to be, people you can learn and grow with. If you don’t have a network then you should start building one today.

Trust your instinct: This is possibly one of my favourites and I attribute a lot of my own personal success to this. I love this quote from Elizabeth Gilbert (author of ‘Eat, Pray, Love’) from her book ‘Big Magic’:

“Do whatever brings you life, then follow your own fascinations, obsessions and compulsions. Trust them. Create whatever causes a revolution in your heart.” So my answer to my client yesterday was that she needs to decide what her successful life looks like. Then she needs to go out there any grab it with both hands.

Everything you want from life is possible.
